First visit

What to expect

About 75 minutes, mostly talking at first.

You fill in a short form at the front desk, then meet your acupuncturist in the treatment room. Later visits are about 45 minutes. You can bring a family member to sit in or to translate, and you can ask for any part to be paused or skipped.

  • Wear something loose, with sleeves that roll up

  • Eat something light beforehand, and do not come on an empty stomach

  • Bring a list of everything you take, with any labels

  • Bring your insurance card if you plan to ask for a receipt

The visit, in order

  1. 01

    Step 1: Arrive and settle

Our front desk greets you, takes your form and shows you to the room.

  2. 02

    Step 2: We talk

What brings you in, your health history, your sleep, digestion and what you take.

  3. 03

Step 3: We look and feel

Your tongue and your pulse, so we can see how your pattern fits together.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Treatment

Acupuncture, and sometimes cupping or moxibustion, with a formula if we both agree.

  5. 05

    Step 5: The plan

We tell you what to do at home, when to come back and what to tell us if anything changes.

Tell us first

Tell the front desk or your acupuncturist at the start if any of these apply:

  • You are pregnant or might be.
  • You take a blood thinner, or you bleed or bruise easily.
  • You have a pacemaker or another implanted device.
  • You have had lymph nodes removed.
  • Needles worry you.

If you are in pain that is new or severe, or you have a fever, see your doctor before your visit.
